The Yahrtzeit Board
A Memorial Wall has been set up at Chabad of North Phoenix.
Our sages tell us that the best memorial for a loved that has passed on is to donate Tzedaka (Charity) in their memory. You can dedicate a plaque on the Memorial, which will bear the name and date of the passing of a loved one, with a $500 Tax-Deductible contribution.
Memory is especially powerful when the past can be an inspiration. When we remember them in our physical life, their life is not just a passive memory, but becomes active and their light eternal. For those who have passed on, they merit the continuous impact in both the physical world and the spiritual world-to-come.
For this reason part of the Yizkor service includes a pledge to tzedakah, charity, a mitzvah done on behalf of the deceased's soul. Another mitzvah is reviving Jewish activity, which our tradition teaches brings spiritual benefits to the souls in whose merit the Torah is studied.
With this in mind, we have created a Yartzeit Memorial Board including the names of our loved ones. Each name will be engraved on a plaque included for $500 and will be used to support Jewish activities in North Phoenix. You create a double mitzvah – tzedakah and Jewish life – on behalf of your loved ones.
This Board speaks volumes of your commitment to carry on the legacy of your loved one by doing acts of charity in his / her name. All plaques purchased will remain on the board in our synagogue forever.
Names inscribed on the plaque will have their Yahrtzeit observed in the following manner:
- A card will be mailed each year with a reminder of the day of the Yahrtzeit.
- If there is no family member present on the Yahrtzeit day to say the “Kaddish”, it will be said for you.
- The memorial bulb will be lit during the week of the yahrtzeit and during all Yizkor days.
- Four times a year, on Yom Kippur, Succos, Pesach, and Shavuos, the "Moleh" prayer will be recited for the name of the departed, at the conclusion of the Yizkor service.
The cost for inscription on a Yartzeit plaque is $500.00 ($360 for our Chai-club members).
