The holiday of Shavuos is fast approaching and Chabad will be conducting in-person services in our Sanctuary. All are welcome. While we are doing everything possible to make our services safe, we do understand that not everyone is ready to attend public assembly gatherings. We hope you find a way to make Shavuos meaningful and inspirational in the privacy of your own home. Our website, OurJewishCenter.com/shavuot, will provide you with all you need to know about the holiday and its traditions.
That said, there is one tradition you may find particularly lacking that way: The recital of Yizkor to honor the memory of your dearly departed loved ones. Recited on the last day of the holiday (Tuesday, May 18), there is something especially poignant and dignified about having our departed parents memorialized in the presence of the congregation – with the Torah scrolls bearing witness to our testaments of love, loyalty, gratitude and continuity.
Toward that end, we am offering to serve as your proxy and representative in offering the Yizkor prayer for your loved ones in our Shul on your behalf.
With Sefer Torah in hand, we will humbly and reverentially pronounce the name of each departed loved one you ask us to remember for you. In concert thereof, we would encourage you to utilize the morning hours of the final day ofShavout as a time to reflect deeply upon the memories, teachings and legacies of those whose names will be invoking on your behalf.
Please use the form below to provide us with the names (Hebrew, if known) of your loved ones, as well as their father’s and mother’s names. In mentioning them during Yizkor, we will pray to be a worthy messenger for those who will have entrusted me with this awesome task.
May the souls of our righteous loved ones achieve an aliya (ascendancy) in the heavens above, and may they prevail upon the Almighty to at long last bring the anguish and distress of His loving and devoted children to a swift and liberating end.
